The humble unloved pallet gets a second life

When I set out to make these for people, I quickly realised that there are a ton of similar products out there, ranging in both style and cost from big name retailers down to ‘men in a shed’ .

However I was determined to make them a little unique and stick to the basic idea of using recycled wood. Nothing screams more recycled than the humble and much unloved pallet.

Once used for their primary purpose, they are generally thrown into a skip to be broken down or burnt. They have one major disadvantage though. Boy are they rough and hard to dismantle ! They vary widely in design, colour and shape but I think that is part of their charm. I know that this lends itself to a certain rustic look however I am mindful that kids will be playing with these mud kitchens so every single plank and board is planed and sanded down by hand to ensure a smooth finish as possible.

Feedback is vital and I am lucky that so many people have offered advice on what would be best in terms of style , finish, accessories etc and so it is quite an evolving project. That means that as I build them, I will be tweaking the design along the way which essentially means you get a unique bespoke kitchen. Due to the way they are built, no two will ever be the same and I will be adding new ideas all the time.

Flatpack v built, mass produced v handmade, local v national....

Yes you can buy these from big name retailers, have them delivered flat packed and from anywhere in the country but that is not my aim. I am simply making them by hand, using locally sourced recycled materials and hopefully bringing something a little different. I am always open to suggestions and ideas so please do get in touch

Happy Mudding !
